No classic car exhibition feels truly complete without the unmistakable presence of an MG TD, and InterClassics Maastricht once again proved why.

On display were two absolute stunners: a fire-engine red 1953 model and a pristine white 1952 example, both presented in magnificent, concours-worthy condition. Chrome gleaming, timeless lines, charm off the charts—simply superb.

So really… what are you waiting for? Slip behind the wheel of an MG TD and experience motoring as it was meant to be.

PS: The first photo comes straight from a vintage advertisement, proof that this icon has been turning heads for decades.

Who said Fiats were only popular, mass-produced, and rather low-end cars?

Look at these two beauties, seen at Maastricht InterClassics, worthy of the finest automobiles: the 1955 Fiat 8V Berlinetta Speciale by Pininfarina (unique model) and the 1963 Fiat 1300 S Vignale Coupé (around 50 units). The 8V even took home Best in Class.

Exactly. Convinced now? Enjoy.

Question: Are you searching for a car that stands as a quiet yet bold icon of the 1970s, that is, a grand tourer that embodied effortless elegance while perfectly reflecting the daring spirit of its era?

Answer: Look no further. This 1973 Fiat 130 Coupé 3.2 V6 by Pininfarina is the answer. This sleek coupé, seen in Maastricht, equipped with a manual gearbox and produced in fewer than 1000 examples, is widely admired for its understated, timeless design. Considered a true milestone in automotive history, its clean lines have gone on to influence the styling of many vehicles that followed. Thanks, Fiat.

What Alfa should have consistently done, but didn't: paint the front and rear bumpers in the body color.

The Aerodinamica series (Series 3, 1983–1989) is often criticized for its bulky black plastic trim, but it is completely transformed when finished in the car's original paint. The result is stunning.

Quite the rare find at the InterClassics 2026 in Maastricht.

This 1967 Porsche 912 Targa features the coveted soft window rear, a design famous for its style, if not exactly its waterproofing. It wears its original, period-correct Bahama Yellow with pride.

As one of around 500 units built in 1967 and hailing from the sunny roads of California, this car has been spared the elements and meticulously restored. A pure time capsule.

In the Small is Beautiful series, meet these three Toyota Sports 800s: a white 1965 car and a red 1967 car at InterClassics Maastricht 2026, and a blue 1965 car at Rétromobile Paris 2025.

The Toyota Sports 800 may be tiny in stature, but it looms large in Japan's automotive history as Toyota's very first production sports car.

Light, slippery through the air, and conceived by an aircraft designer, it's a pocket-sized engineering gem powered by an 800cc air-cooled flat-twin. Only around 3000 were built... small car, small numbers.

Anorak fact: the engine, or at least a close relative, also found work in buses… not to move them, but to run the air-conditioning.

Last weekend, InterClassics Maastricht 2026 presented a retrospective of the most impressive Japanese cars ever produced. Unsurprisingly, a 1969 Toyota 2000 GT took pride of place among other Japanese icons.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so the saying goes. For decades, the Japanese car industry was dismissed as little more than a copy-and-paste exercise, supposedly lacking originality.

Think again. Just look at those lines. Now imagine the car in red. Exactly.

Of course, this elegant sports car will forever be associated with the Japanese actress Akiko Wakabayashi, who appeared alongside the 2000 GT and Sean Connery in the Bond film You Only Live Twice. For filming, the car's roof had to be removed so Connery could fit his 6ft 2in frame into the passenger seat. Enjoy.

Small is beautiful, as the saying goes.

This idea is perfectly illustrated by these three Honda displayed at InterClassics 26 in Maastricht. The blue one is a 1970 S800 Roadster, the black one a 1967 S600 Roadster, and the red one a 1968 S800.

As a child (... and today, too), I have been reading all the adventures of Spirou and Fantasio, and on the cover of the album 'Du glucose pour Noémie', I fell in love with the little Honda roadster.

Noémie is actually a car (if not mistaken a 1934 Duesenberg SJ) that runs on the extraordinary energy of a mushroom, powered by pieces of sugar, i.e. glucose.

Which car was missing from the excellent Japanese selection at the InterClassics 26 in Maastricht? A highly subjective question. Perfect, let's embrace our bias.

This splendid 1990 Mazda RX-7 (FC3S, 1985-1991), turbocharged (around 200 HP) and convertible, probably the only rotary-powered car to combine this combination, surely would have deserved a spot alongside the other Wankel cars on display.

InterClassics Maastricht 2026 was a great edition, set in a beautiful city. Maastricht, in the southeastern Netherlands, is the capital of the province of Limburg and lies on both banks of the Meuse (Maas). The city is also known for the 1992 Maastricht Treaty, which introduced the (often debated... maybe even dubious...) convergence criteria... requirements that several countries have struggled to meet.

Let's focus on classic motor cars. Even the exhibitor parking in front of the MECC was worth a look. Here is a sample: Toyota Land Cruiser J60, Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126, Jaguar XJ Series III, Jaguar S-Type, and BMW Z3. And, of course, the highlight at the entrance, a splendid lineup of five Ferrari Dinos. Enjoy.

Prewar cars were scarce at InterClassics 2026 in Maastricht, making this 1936 Alvis Speed 25 SC DHC stand out all the more. A Dutch dealer deserves credit for putting such an elegant example on display.

Chassis 13362 was coachbuilt by Charlesworth as a DHC in 1936. However, according to the Alvis Register, the fitted engine (15149), or at least some parts of it, originally belonged to car 20161... a 1939 Charlesworth-bodied saloon.

As always, originality is a matter of perspective, ranging from 'oh my God, sacrilege' to 'no issue at all'. From behind the wheel, the matching-numbers debate matters little, but the market undeniably places a premium on fully matching cars.

That said, if you can live with a non-matching example, this Alvis could be a wonderful entry into the marque... provided the current, ambitious asking price reflects that reality.
