This page presents short notes about automotive technics. I wrote them in the first place for me, as a complement to great books, homepages, and documents, which may not be as complete and easy to read as I would like them to be. If you find these short notes useful, or if you find erros, please send me an email. Many thanks in advance. Enjoy the reading.

Gear Gear ratio, torque This note explains a few important principles about gears and torque.

Gear ratio, speed, revolutions This note links the end gear ratio with speed, engine revolutions, and wheel size.

Electricity Ohm's law This note explains Ohm’s law connecting current, voltage, and resistance. It also describes the concepts of work and power in this context.

Engine Valve timing This note explains the valve timing (for inlet and exhaust valves) of the four-stroke engine (intake, compression, power or combustion, exhaust).

Horsepower This note explains the concept of horsepower and links together mechanical horsepower, torque, and engine revolutions per minute.

Power conversion This note presents the conversion of mechanical horsepower hp and metric power ps in kW.

Wilson gearbox 01 The Wilson pre-selector gearbox and its fluid flywheel provide the stepping stone between manual and automatic motor cars, more explanation can be found in this short note by the Daimler and Lanchester cars.

Wilson gearbox 02 Epicyclic gearboxes, such as the Wilson pre-selector gearbox, are explained in this short note by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.
