THE THING

Volkswagen are not necessarily my cup of tea, but I like some models a lot... such as the Type 181, a two-wheel drive, four-door convertible, manufactured by Volkswagen from 1968 until 1983, more precisely until 1980 for civilians.

Originally developed for the West German army, the 181 entered the civilian market as - fasten your seat belts - Kurierwagen, Trekker, the Thing, Safari, Camat, and Pescaccia, depending on where you live.

This particular one was offered at the last Toffen auction. A great and cool alternative to a Bettle or a Moke. Splendid.

Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 1992, in a nice color, something like English green, from the 4th and last spider series.

I am not a graduate any more, but I still find these Alfa very attractive, and a lot of car for the buck. The new owner got a nice car for a fair price. Congrats.

The colors of a normal week. In the front, white and grey, Monday to Friday. In the back, red and black, Saturday and Sunday. Do you agree?

And we keep walking in the parking space of the last auction in Toffen. Fiesta 1.3 Super Sport. 1980 or 1981. If I am not mistaken, this was the sporty version while customers were waiting for the XR2.

The engine is a 'nothing-special' version of the Kent engine, but the look was especially great... probably to compensate some shortcomings of the engine. Anyway, I like it a lot. Thanks to the owner.

The best, I mean, the more exotic, in the parking space, during the Toffen auction, was probably this Iso Grifo.

It looks like a 'normal' (everything is relativ...) A3/C but with a few subtle changes, such as the gas tank or the air gills on the front sides. Anyway, great that the owner showed up with his/her car and drove it to Toffen. Thanks a lot.

Still in the parking space, during the last auction in Toffen, MG ZS. Not the recent, boring SUV. But this small, hot 4-door saloon. Quite rare in Switzerland.

Is it a genuine MG? It is up to you to answer this question. But I would say yes, especially with the V6 in the 180 version. Thanks to the owner for showing up.

Yes, with a quite rare hardtop. Different types were (or still are) offered, this one with the side windows seems to be an original one. Very nice. MG Midget 1965 Mk2. Seen during the drive to Toffen. Enjoy.

Yesterday, with a few friends, I attended the Spring auction in Toffen BE. Very often, the parking space is as interesting as the auction. Imagine, not only one, but two Vanden Plas were parked.

Exactly, Vanden Plas Princess R with its Rolls-Royce all-aluminium engine, of around 4 litres. The car and the engine resulted from more than two years technical collaboration between BMC and Rolls-Royce. I think the motivation was to develop a smaller car for Bentley, actually a fact to be checked. Anyway, thanks to the owners.
